i’m grace, and i’m an artist. my story doesn’t begin nor start with me.
It actually began a long time ago (Genesis 1:1).
One day, I was thinking about the different types of artists there are. There are the word artists who blog, write novels and dissertations, or simply express their feelings on social media posts. There are the color artists who paint walls inside buildings, use acrylic or watercolors to intermingle with the blank canvases, to the ones who even use brushes to blend the colors on eye creases or cheeks. There are the musicians, engineers, speakers, and the list goes on in how beauty is expressed, delivered, and felt.
Then this thought lingered in my mind: we are simply mere images and reflections of an ultimate Artist. Writer. Architect. Engineer. Speaker. Creator. We image the One who made art, creation and us, out of nothing. We only create out of something but never out of nothing. But God? He creates everything out of nothing (Genesis 1).
God is someone who cherishes beauty. Think of the colors of a sunrise or sunset. Every morning and evening, we are always captivated by “just the right and perfect amount” of blend between the reds, yellow, and blues to create the oranges and purples. It takes us to study “beauty” and know how and why colors paired with certain tools or techniques compliment each other to create stunning art. We train our eyes to create and recognize beauty. It takes effort for us. But these things are not true of God. It takes no effort for Him because He made all that. He is beauty.
So open up your eyes to recognize the beautiful colors of creation and how they compliment one another. Stand amazed that the Creator God has good taste in beauty. Stand in awe of beauty Himself.
So i create after a Creator (Genesis 1:1). i am simply an image of Him.
